Tunnels for sewerage, electricity, gas, internet..... would reduce all this weirdness. The key word being "planning"! But as always, most govt's tend to be slow in adoption and implementation of technology requiring the private sector to take the lead. Let's hope the Governors are able to be more in touch and fast track this critical changes in our society. On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 9:09 AM, Job Muriuki <muriukin@gmail.com> wrote:
What needs to be done it tho have one entity say the city council or a contracted company to lay concrete tunnels big enough to accommodate every providers fiber cables. That way they all lease space and don't have to dig up all the time and deployment times are short.Everyone is happy!

Most cities in Europe, the fibre is owned by the City Council and leased to all players, so the digging is done once, usually when roads are being repaired and fibre laid under the roads - this to me looks the most viable solution than allow everyone to dig up everywhere.

I feel you. Every fibre company digging trenches, every mobile network putting up base stations, every bank putting up ATMs (and branches) blah blah.

I think you can stop them from digging up your fence, lodge an objection. I hear there are situations where they have to drill through some people's compounds as they can't dig through.
As for them sharing fibre, doesn't look like will happen soon - they keep engaging in anti-competitive practices like overcharging each other, taking years to service a request, aggressively targeting clients served by a competitor on shared fibre etc Is it ever possible for a single company to dig and lay the fibre with a crazy huge bandwidth where everybody else "hires" from this single entity?
Everytime these goons dig up trenches for fibre I have to repair the fence one way or the other..... any ideas?
Just a rant [?]
