@fyodor et al: I think if you are willing to pay for these services (or have someone on the inside) you can approach the recording studios - no idea how much they would charge for this, but I believe it is the best for quality coz they have all the fancy equipment that can do this...

Else you can take up Tony's approach or Wahome's...

- Playin the audios tapes from a separate
- Feeding the output of above into the mic input of a PC
- Capturing the input using available software (I had some crude tool that came with the Motherboard)
- Processing the resulting audio files (Trimming off paused, sound levelling, etc)

The trick was in tinkering with the settings on the tools used.

Else, I believe there are guys who offer the same service commercially.
