For modems, try find one that supports AT commands to access the STK (sim application toolkit). 

For phones, one of the many ways to go is to write a small daemon/service app that communicates with your desktop app to achieve your goal (thru bluetooth, usb or WiFi).

Is there anyone with an idea of how i can access Mpesa menu from a desktop application i.e connecting to a phone or modem from my custom made application then operate mpesa from there
