There's a lot that you can do: * Convince your friends to move over to redphone. This will protect your call from recording but may leak metadata (SIP/RTP endpoints are IP endpoints which can be tied to specific phones/SIM) [1] * Move your texting to textsecure. This will protect your text messages from eavesdropping. Again, metadata is up for grabs. [2] * Enable TLS everywhere [3] * The list is goes on. Imagine if someone followed you around daily, tracking your every step, and you knowing that they may use/twist the information they have against you...and there is absolutely nothing that you can do.

I do not think this espionage issue is that big in the event that you do not deal drugs, terrorism, money laundering. In any case, I do not think they spy to steal from your bank or Paypal account. If you are on the right side of the law, worry not! I may be wrong though.
