Hi Guys

I know a colleague of mine who can train R. If anyone is interested let me know.

Thanks
Jackson

@Nyarotho, I'll consider it [R] . I could connect you with the people in that team so that you can get a clear picture of their requirement. It has been a while, I hope you are doing great.

Eva - long time.

My advice, before you spend any mullah on an analytics solution please take lots of time in planning/strategizing/gathering facts (like what you are doing here). I know of a good number of organizations sitting with expensive solutions doing Excel level analytics.

Having said that and from what you have shared, i would get R, spend some mullah on training my people (by the way R is not that hard), and narrow down on specifics. Rem even SAS is not like word (plug and play) and you will still need to train.

Also i train guyz on R :)

@Alex: you said this
"P/S

Instead of buying you could also run it off amazon web services and pay for the usage"

in reference to SAS? If so, please tell me more

SAS has an academic version that is free but not with all the functionalities.

Depending on your level of analytics it may address your use case.

Ahh...share what you find out about SAS. Also how many companies use it locally

@Kennedy, they use Magpi for this purpose?

Actually I think the training for R was done by one Mr. Mimano of datadyne. They also do data collection apps for agric NGOs. He's on this list

They do not as if now. I wouldn't say they do analytics even after forming a department specifically for that.

Thank you all for the advice.

The research team is primarily agriculture based...their analyst insists that Stata is for engineering and he hasn't heard of R.

@Mosoti I will check the Enterprise guide, thank you

@Kennedy do you know if Safcom offer analytics as a service? (I wish)

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Any idea who's using R? I know equity had training on this but not sure if they actively use it.

For SAS, get someone from Safcom to advice.

For individual users, you can go for the SAS Enterprise Guide but for collaboration purposes you will need to include the server.

Alternatives; you can consider IBM SPSS or Stata. R is also an option if the users can roll up their sleeves and get coding.

Hello All,

My employer has a research department and they asked me for assistance in procuring SAS 9.4 . I am not conversant with it and went online to look it up.

From SAS website, it seems like it is at least a three tier system (server  to end user). My queries:

  • Is there anyone out there that has interacted with SAS?
  • Does it scale down or should I also include a server along with their request?
  • Are there alternatives that are not as large scale as SAS?

I look forward to your response :)
