True; it would be a waste if that bash shell can't chmod or nano, etc.
About SSH on Windows: I came across OpenSSH (client +server) some years back and it's pretty good. Once installed it allows you to use ssh, scp, and various other commands right inside Windows' cmd. Checkirrout :-)
