Speaking as "power user" and having tried various linux flavors straight up, linux + windows dual boot as well as virtual, I ended up starting in linux to end up in windows; everyday! Very counter productive. So IMO, I emphatically say yes MacBook pro + windows 8, for those rare occasions, definitely works, at least for me.
