I have a server for monitoring (cacti) and slots well with a public IP address A.A.A.A working fine and monitoring all devices perfectly. Maybe its something am missing, but this has stuck with me since Thursday last week! Anyone with any pointers?
Is something changing the routes when you assign this interface the private IP?
Perhaps you should start by comparing the routes (netstat -rn) before and after the assignment of the private IP and see what paths are taken using traceroute.
