This request is primarily for skunks who are also football fans and have ditched dstv for online streaming (or any other means of watching premier league).
I'm hoping this thread can serve as the reference for anyone thinking ditching dstv. We can all help by reporting on what the odds are to watch an entire match with acceptable buffering (say once every 10 min at most) based on your internet provider.
This includes but is not limited to Safaricom Fibre, Safaricom 3G & 4G, JTL Faiba, AccessKenya, Orange, Liquid Telcom etc.
Mine report is below:
- Device: Amazon Fire TV
- Device Cost: $100
- Platform: Android
- App: Kodi + Phoenix (or Vdubt25)
- Provider: Zuku
- Setup Cost: Ksh. 2,000 (not sure, was some time back).
- Monthly Cost: Ksh. 10,000.
- Speed: 50 Mbs (Shared)
- Quality: HD
- Conclusion:
- It's pretty much 50/50, some days are great, some horrible. One match will stream in HD with very little buffering, others will struggle the entire game. I'd say you have a 50-60% chance of watching an entire match in peace.
- Notes: There are lower quality streams that will never buffer, but are horrible to watch.
I'm hoping we can find the best device + provider, that has the lowest barrier to entry as well as lowest cost per year. If you are using Bein sports or any other means, kindly report as well and let us know what's involved in setting it up (satellite dish, devices, yearly/monthly fees etc).
