I managed to solve the problem which was a wrong redirect script (302 instead of 301) from the old domain(kenyapolytechnic.ac.ke) to the new domain (tukenya.ac.ke).  I think google was penalizing the new site i also used the webmaster tools and verified the site and created a site map as advised and the results are encouraging so far. Thank you all for the invaluable advice
