Was asking about this because I once had an experience with trying to recover data of a messed up QuickBooks file.
Eventually, I advised the owner to speak to someone with a legit license. Troubleshooting and recovery on these MS Windows based accounting packages is rather difficult.
The information on the forums always turns out to not be the case and the error codes are useless; they point you in a general direction where the issue could be one of tens. Again, one error code turns out to be the result of another so you end up in an infinite loop until you want to pull all your hair out.
We once had an issue with the pastel server at our office and after trying this and that, by a stroke of luck we isolated the accountants' network and the system was ok. Nowhere in their manuals and knowledge base will you ever find such a solution.
I you are not sorted as yet, my advise is that you open a case with their support.
