This is what I think also.
The rate at which I have seen them fail points to this.
Luckily, there is also just one supplier involved in all this. I am not going to ask for a replacement of a fake with a possible fake.
I need to find a way to pin this supplier down!
There are fake WD HDDs which have flooded the local market. I had bought one of 320GB last year and had to return it to the vendor who really took me round in circles before asking me to cough up more money for an external HDD of 250GB which I believe is genuine. I think there are blogs that have photos of genuine and fake WD HDDs where you can do a check.
