Registration was there also with previous Barcamp (on the wiki page). So this is not new !
Get registered and get a nice T-shirt and freebies (sticker, etc.); Otherwise, don't register and that's it... end of story

Doesn't the formal registration process defeat the who purpose of
Barcamp. I think we've been pretty successful before with less
structure, why cant we carry on this way?
