@Nicholas, you don't have to trash open source software to lead sales your way. I believe nowadays people (especially the people of this forum) have overcome the euphoria of free software, and are more prone to choosing a software that meets their need, free or not. Maybe you could attempt to convince interested clients to see your demo based on the merits of your product, and not on the (perceived) demerits of the competition. Just my two cents. This is a cost of "use it as it is", often times open software community versions have many bugs, that are intentionally kept for the so called "professional support" that would fix and other update of costing of additional modules.
You should be careful with random customization as that might break your copy of the code . Your copy can quickly go out of sync with the community versioning and block you from successful updating.
The other ugly issue with most open source productivity software is the price of "Professional support". Most of the time costs go higher that most closed source. Why should your pay more than $1000 for a software with intentional bugs or certain limitations in features instead of buying a reliable software that works starting from $500?That why I just asked you what you mean by "Low Cost".
If you could define your true demands i could give a good solution solution with options of much more reliable customization in case.

Gentlemen,
Allow me to revive and steer this convo towards the nitty gritty side of things.
From your strong recommendation of Odoo as stable solution for some commercial solutions I took it up and am impressed so far.
However, I have recently setup Odoo 9 (Community) POS for my retail outlet and I noticed something very peculiar when it is in live use. At times some sales via POS are not posted to the database hence not recorded and stock not adjusted.
The problem happens when the user momentarily shifted from the POS selling interface to check on other parts of the system eg orders/create a quotation or invoice. When they resume, the next sale picks the order number of the last sale and somehow Odoo flags this and does not post the sale or -ve stock adjustment. So far the work around am using is should a user require to check another part of the system then before they resume to the POS they have to log out and then log in again.
The server PC is where they are running the client instance on too on a browser. Intel Duo Core (3 GHz), 4 GB RAM
Have you encountered the same at some point? If yes how did you solve the underlying problem?
Regards,
