Hi all,
Not being a Windows user, I have no clue about Windows activation. These are my questions. If a computer is bought with Windows 7 Home Premium:
1. If the Windows is reinstalled, how many times can it be re-activated? Is there a limit (either by phone, over the net, etc).
2. If the Windows is installed inside a VM (on the same computer which is now running Linux), can it still be activated? And if so, how many times (if you re-install)?
3. What hardware changes (if any) are allowed?

Hey @Brian, firstly please keep an open mind that Open Source and possibly linux and its use and commercial gains is no Mother Teresa. :-))))) Now with that out of the way....
When it comes to the commerce aspect, which open source also is competing on, there are are established vendors of products and services. If you are in serious need of the knowledge on the questions asked, I can dig deeper into my notes that are collecting dust over the years and try to respond to your questions.
To make licensing cheaper for manufacturers, there is OEM licensing. You can also buy FPP licensing which will allow multiple activations.
Let you know as soon.
Rgds. :-)
