Seriously? In my world I would not tell developers to sit and wait to innovate only when RESTful API is here..

SOAP or REST will achieve same goal - Integration. It doesn't matter whether its JAX-WS or JAX-RS. They are options.

It is a big milestone now that API is out there. People are doing things.. Uchumi, Jumia are 2 major online retails stores doing it among others.

It is not an excuse that developers will sit, wait until REST is available. A day or week in technology is like decades and I would encourage people to work with what is already out there as we wait things to be streamlined, and by this I mean seamless process put in place the way other players like PayPal are doing it.

JAX-WS is as good as JAX-RS. So SAOP or REST

Hi all,

For those wanting to do it ground up and integrate to any Java application. Spent my Sunday afternoon creating one when I came across this.

I have only done C2B - lipa na mpesa checkout

Just Drop the jar file in your lib and get your hands dirty!

Obstacles ?
  • No XSD schema to validate SOAP Requests
  • Not seamless PayPal or Google Play store API, you will need to contact Safaricom to setup VPN access for developer testing

Many Thanks

Hey Skunks,

I’m considering working on a wrapper for the M-PESA 2nd generation platform (in my primary programming language) to have closer integration with Safaricom MPesa and also to possibly make it easier for others to integrate (read … abstract all the SOAP stuff). I’m willing to have it open sourced from the word go (even through development). Some people might find it useful.

I’ve never dealt with Safaricom technically etc. … and just want to have a light consultation about what exactly I’m getting myself into.

I’m not in Kenya but I have my Safaricom line roaming so can access MPesa (not sure that bit is really important but ...). Keeping that in mind, I have some questions:

  1. Are there any foreseeable obstacles that I should know about?
  2. Is there a development mode where I can build without spending any actual money and just get dummy responses?
  3. Is a low level explanation of the transaction process somewhere (not the API spec)?

Ps: I’ve simply skimmed through the docs, pardon my naivety (if any).
