What desktop environment are you using?
Hi,
Managed to get things working:
i) For CPU fan: Installed the acpi daemon and lm_sensors packages - the fan now works as it should.
ii) For Screen brightness: I found a manual hack to use on the command line:sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=60 (where B = value of the brightness indicated as a number between [0-99] with 0 being the lowest and 99 being the highest value of brightness). It's not the most elegant solution, but it works.
Thanks for the tips pple.

Try "yum install acpid" . I think you can boot without ACPI cause it takes a short time, unless you want to Google on how to integrate ACPI into Grub2._______________________________________________
