Also remember the kenyan shareholders make as little as 50 bob dividends per year.
so much about local shareholders!!!!!!

just out of curiousity @peter, what are we arguing about?
1: Is it that the government regulator reduced charges for licenses ? (3G or otherwise) in a manner that has other people acquire them and compete with safaricom? (you need to check your dictionary for the meaning of "regulator", in Instrumentation, regulation is based on feedback. IMHO, regulation is happening, feedback since the last action (the pricing of the license) informed the current action (reducing the price).
2: Are you complaining that we are complaining about safaricom's pricing strategy? -> either way, we are all complaining, so were equal & should shut up cause we'll deafen each other.
3: Do you think zain and other players are threatening the dominance of safaricom? I think so too.
In my own perspective, you dont fight a giant like safaricom, you make him bleed by self inflicted injuries. You make his operations untenable and unprofitable, then being a giant=> higher operation costs will make him unprofitable, then he'll have to rethink his business plan all together.... that is what airtel is doing.
Trust me, wait for something from them on Data. Real Broadband is headed for 999 a month, which i guess is what the government should be congratulated for because even that (broadband) is an enabler.

Talking about food and such an interesting statement i heard. The
greatest competitor to Coca cola in Kenya is bamba 20. Granted soda is
a luxury item but it show's how people spend money. About transport.
Why pay 50 bob to go to town when you can transact your business over
the phone at 3 bob a minute? Send cash etc
