Aki,
When I joined the lecturers referred me to internet to research. This is because the institution had few reference materials compared to the number of students sharing them.
Later I realized that most of the lecturers have never worked in the corporate sector. This meant all the knowledge and expertise they have they read from books(This is why all practical set ups only dealt with basics. E.g.
Networking
In networking-We set up a 3 computer LAN yet we had a Computer Lab of over 50 computers.
In N/w administration- Installed a Windows Server no server roles where configured. Infact Assignment two was to set up a domain using the server. The lecturer never made a follow up
In fact I learn't more from the Campus sys. admin while on work study than from the lectures(On networking and system administration). He gave me books, videos and tutorials. They set the basis right for me. Forever I am grateful for the time he spared for me and his inputs. Forever indebted.
Programming
All course outlines covered the basic programming(Introduction, variables and strings, control structures, intro to object oriented programming). I expected they should go up to files and maybe network programming.)
From your rants I have noticed you expect a lot from people like me. I believe it is the duty of those who came before to invest in their juniors by passing the knowledge they have acquired.
Kindly do people like me credit, pass your knowledge and become immortal.
Only my views.
