@dave, this has nothing to do with google as (if my assumption is
correct) they do not host your domain name.
Here is the only way you can do this:

1: Go into the google apps control panel and change your url for mail
to mail.yourdomain.com
2: Go to your domain name manager (on your domain name registrar) and
add an A record for mail.yourdomain.com to point to google.
