David, I have worked with Robert in the IT Industry also for many years and I agree with you.... If I was able to unsubscribe then I would not be complaining..... This issue has even been in the papers in Pulse magazine !!!! On 9/18/09, David Mugo <raidarmax@gmail.com> wrote:
Hey,
You all are a little harsh on Bidii. Robert is doing quite some work in our web industry and I think once in a while its good to give credit where it belongs even when crude methods are used. I was also subscribed without my knowledge but I was able to unsubscribe so instead of spending hours discussing him, lets just unsubscribe and continue with our work. I can assure you something, Robert is among the few Kenyans who have so far benefited from his efforts on the web. If you have been a pioneer in this industry, its painful and hard to break through.
Lets support each other instead of bashing each other.

they are still using google groups, but instead of forced subscriptions, they own a domain whose sole purpose is to spam you to submission. i think google gave them a no-forced subscription and spamming policy. what they are now doing is technically within the above policy
I think they are not using googlegroups now. They have registered a domain name and hosted it on a server where Mailman is being used so addresses from googlegroups have been imported into Mailman. If you ask me, in the absence of forced subscription, and if they allow users to unsubscribe themselves, the way it is implemented now is quite acceptable. It's the way mailing lists are supposed to be. So let's not show animosity towards them unless we can find justification for it.
