Simon,
I thinking u r the type that should be shredded n fed to the gorillas (I'm serious here)!!
How many companies do u happen to know that r retrenching? If u feel like it, quit n join the masses!!
Harsh words but its simply the truth according to me!!
By the way, banking is the most boring thing I've ever been into!! But here is an opportunity to sharpen your skills n do stuff!!
I've been doing the said routine work for like one n a half yrs now.
I agree with you, most of the banking systems including mine have the worst security holes but if you inform the superiors (most of whom r old n uneducated (old here refered to the guys who fear technology)), they tell you they'll look into it!!
I derive fun {evil grin} watching the IT manager googling n calling support companies to come n deal with a .vbs virus script n issuing memos to the whole bank!!
Contact me offlist for more..................

Hi,
I feel you bro... it can be torture to see complacency around you. Seems like the company itself has no vision of it's own. I'll forward any job adverts i get. all the same, google up info on what management actually should be... the aspect of forging a path of leadership and work to push this into the people's minds. The IT department is usually a very influential department if the cards are played right. This is opportunity for you to draw a vision and mission statement for your future endeavours.

Then I also recommend that you talk to your creator and understand what on earth He got you into that company for. Pray about it.

@Simon - i hope your employer has never heard of skunkworks.

You mean the dude I am with in IT?? I am sure he never has. But what I have said is the truth anyway.

My opinion - talk to your boss.. explore what other opportunities there are in that current organization that you may be interested in. Also, use the "bored" time to learn about other things in the financial world.. Learn their business, learn the industry, their ways of working. Don't limit yourself to the computer, explore.Maximize the opportunity, while at the same time, don't underperform in your role. Every organisation has something to offer, even if it is "how not to do business."

I have tried talking to him, he appears far from enthused whenever I talk to him about anything except when we are talking about businesses one can start. he likes talking about bakeries and fertilizer production. [I'm dead serious] By the way, underperforming in my riole is unfathomable, my role involves routine work. When I come up with ideas like establishing a domain, he looks at me like I'm being ridiculous. Can you imagine UUNET had to redo the physical network here?? Wanna know why? They were using the *bus topology*.. not in the 70s, in the 2000s. Don't you just pity me?

when it comes to challenge - find you passion and look for something along those lines.

I have tried that, but there is so little that I can learn here. I am trying to study how the banking system operates because all I have been taught is routine work.. like when branches close for the day, do end-of-day like this [proceeds to demonstrate]

To leave or not. Hard question.

This I must and will surely do, God willing, only that I am not sure when is the best time.

Tito.

Thanks, really. More comments welcome :)

Hey Simon, thnks for that recent tip on SDK on my still troubled c sharp journey. my adv would be that firstly leaving too soon would like bad on your resume and may affect your next job prospects.  You can use the less challenging times to eg study and build on better times ahead. Its one of those things one has no control over. :-)
