Used it from Hurlingham (including a drop off in South B) to JKIA, total cost, 1,503. My cab guy had said minimum 2,000. Let's just say, I'll only be using uber from now on.
I think, this can be explored if telco work with financial partners to have a solid mobile payment solution, which is seamless. My 2 cents, I find Mpesa a " Just a technology that solves our immediate need to just send money" but as far as Mobile e-commerce, Payment solutions the solution has not matured enough.Think of it, You cannot automatically charge collection to an Mpesa Account, without Mobile User involvement comparatively with credit/debit cards, this happens seamless.I echo your views on Mpesa, Though this has been a successful Money transfer service, it has a long match a solid payment solution.@Phares,-----------------------------------On Wed, Feb 4, 2015 at 6:08 PM, Phares via skunkworks <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:I'm not convinced that Safaricom will win the payments battle, unless they improve their offering significantly in the short-medium term. The problem right now is that Visa/Mastercard acquirers have unduly stringent requirements for merchants looking to take up Visa/Mastercard. The settlement was also an issue (up to 30 days with some banks). The thing about MPesa is that it doesn't allow for reversals etc. It's not mature as a payments platform. Costs are not clear etc. For instance, Lipa Na Mpesa was always marketed as a free service for the consumer (the merchant had a 1% fee), turns out they have hidden costs (that are not communicated to the customer). Visa is always free for the customer, where surcharges exist, you are explicitly warned. I'll give an example - I made the mistake of using mpesa to pay for a bag of beans today morning at a coffee shop. MPesa was experiencing delays. I can't leave the merchants (because I have not yet paid, they've not verified this). I can't pay cash (money may leave my account later, there's no way to reverse the transaction, and it's now up to the merchants good will). It's a fairly clunky system. Most people who will be using cabs have bank cards (most banks today issue you with a visa/mastercard for your debit card). Unless mpesa releases an API that allows for direct debit (in a seamless manner) I'm not so sure it's the best solution for this...On Wed, Feb 4, 2015 at 3:34 PM, Kakai Eugene via skunkworks <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:Can groups (say a company) have an account with Uber? With lots of paperwork I used to set my destination, start the google maps turn by turn, put the phone in my pocket with headphones and walk as I listen to directions. Those Swahili road names :) and buildings being in the wrong placesGood old ask for directions from 5 people and take an average always works. On 22 January 2015 at 09:40, Kisakye Alex <kisakye@gmail.com> wrote:@Jangita, you are right, the cabbie needs to know his mapping skills. My uber one time kept taking the wrong turns until I asked if I could help since we were already in the neighbourhood of where I was going and knew the roads well.I *think* they are using googlemaps. I was actually using it as my primary means of transport. I talked to an Uber cabbie on how it works; drivers actually get's a pin dropped at where you are when you "call" for the cab then they reply,(don't know what criteria is used to show you a cab has been found, it will be with you in x minutes, shows you the make and model of the car etc) you confirm, he or she comes, picks you up, drops you where you are going and shows you the cost (which is a mix of time taken and distance - calculated by Uber as the car moves), and you pay from your google play wallet, Paypal, credit card etc. Made jumping from place to place very easy.As per finding you, when a pin is dropped i guess it depends on the cabbie and his map skillsOn 22 January 2015 at 00:13, John Maina via skunkworks <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:_______________________________________________Hey Skunks,Just wondering if anyone has used Uber in Nairobi and would care to share their experience?
