Boss, Anything that connects online can be sniffed and data captured If packets are involved/radio waves etc data transmitted in those media can be retrieved. In short any communication device is never secure The insecurity in communication devices is mitigated by various technologies with the best being encryption. someone please explain to me something about the process, cause from what i read,
1: data was sent to hq through the web and not text / data. 2: Specific apps were installed on the phone (hopefully utilizing the data (GPRS / EDGE) service.
Which leads me to ask:
1: when a BB device connects to the net, does it get net from the enterprise serve in ontario ? or through the local service provider. 2: if it was purely http, or https for that matter, How would that data be captured by the CIA, and were the operatives located at safcom / zain / whichever service provider...
then again, for what possible reason would that kind of data serve if there is a hard copy backup and tallying at the centers ? The star , like its sister publications is seriously showing up for who they really are: sensational peddlers of BS.

I read the original article and IMHO it is ill researched and full of hyperbole, aimed at sensationalising the news without evidence. A number of very obvious points stand out here:
1. The donation did not rest on use, they could have very well decided not to use them at all. 2. Encryption would mitigate the fear that unauthorized parties could read and/or modify the data 3. What evidence does the Star have that the data actually left the country? I didn't see any in the article.
This sort of journalism is irresponsible at best. _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Server donations spreadsheet
