Good people,

Am facing some challenges with users files and documents.

I have servers on several locations that sync users documents which are later on backed up on a central storage. Ideally all files are on My documents folder that syncs to the server.

My challenge is to remove Multimedia files ( Music, Video) that are eating up on the storage I need to isolate the files prior to scheduled synchronization and backup

Anyone with a solution on this please share and advice....

If the "servers" were Unix based, this would be pretty easy. Just some cron that finds .mp*, .avi, .wma (filenames with mediaa extensions) and deleting them, before doing the sync (probably via rsync).

I hope there are Windows gurus here, like @Rad, who can advise you about (1) creating policies that block saving of media files in HOMEDIR, or (2) some Windows PowerShell scripts that can help you achieve the result.

In the meantime, this http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ntbackup_options_exclude.mspx?mfr=true might help you if you use the Windows Backup. As long as Windows Backup is involved in the process, this is likely going to work.

Also, if you read this (http://www.randomtree.org/eric/techblog/archives/2004/09/the_windows_task_scheduler_is_not_a_secondclass_citizen.html) with this (http://www.computing.net/answers/programming/batch-to-delete-files-in-a-folder/16299.html) you can end up with a very powerful tool to achieve what you want.
