Just to divert a little.... The idea of surfing at the same time when on a voice call is possible on GSM. i use the Nokia E71 which is a multi-threaded device. I do this all the time. it can even handle internet calls at the same time a normal voice call. of course you'll get lots of feedback since you are using the same mic and speaker. So its not 3G that cant handle this, it depends on the handset. I'm not concerned whether or not I can make a phone call when surfing. The issue is that the billing is screwed up. Load 50 bob (or make sure u have a small number of units on your phone. This will make the process faster), connect to internet and dont do a heavy download or anything that would consume the 50 bob. Let's say ur calls are billed at 10 bob a minute, wait for 6 minutes to make sure the 50 bob would be used up IF it were a phone call (it's data now). Try and make the phone call or send text. At this point I get a message that I have insufficient funds but clearly I know I have credit coz I didn't surf all the 50 bob. After disconnecting from net, im now able to make the phone call. ON THE OTHER HAND I can make a phone call within the 5 minutes. You can call and surf at the same time but that is limited to the phone model you have.
