D-Link is Taiwanese (Chinese) and has been making some reliable gear (mostly their advance wireless access points) but their switches are not as good. I have bricked 2 of them. It is not where it is made but designed. Reminds me of one company that says, 'Designed in California. Assembled in China.' yes, i did..
I was whipping up a small cyber of 5 computers for someone... internet powered by the Orange 3G+ USB modem <330.gif>
[since there are no telephone lines those sides]
I bought an 8 port DLink switch for the purpose. Funny enough, I had been warned by two different people not to use it, but I thought mabbe they had not been doing the right thing.
I found out for myself -- the very small network setup was very frustrating - even two computers could not ping each other. Often, we resorted to rebooting the switch, in which case, the computers that were being reached previously lost communication, forcing us to keep changing the ports.
I think the problem is WHERE (china) they are being made, and it would be good for DLINK to know that some of these outsourced factories are joking with their manufacturing processes [ a classic case of the novel DISCLOSURE by Michael Critchton] I believe the problem is in their buffering circuits at the ports, which may be as a result of how fast the processors would process from their buffers . I believe the port circuit buffers were getting full too quickly [theory] , and the output/clearing was not keeping up and unable to process further, thus hanging the switch as a whole.
I had to return the switch to buyer, get money back and search for the 'Linksys' _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Server donations spreadsheet http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AopdHkqSqKL-dHlQVTMxU1VBdU1BSWJxdy1f... ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke
