You can also look at smstools+playsms. You should be able to do email to sms, sms to email, bulk sms to groups, etc.
About speed, not sure how it compares to other tools. Setup tested uses modem hooked to server to send out and receive.

I stand corrected. Mass sms is what I mean. Oh, I have used ozeki but
it is not open source, has limited customization capabilities and it's
slow sending mass sms
