My installation of Ubuntu is behaving like it is on the point of cracking so I am thinking backups! What do you use to back up your Ubuntu system? Depends on whether the box is a "server" or just your workstation. In the later case, just backup your stuff and do what needs to be done. You may want to backup the configuration files which you had locally modified so that you don't have to go over the process again after a reinstall (or whatever you decide). If it is a server, then you need to invoke your contingency plans now. That, I cannot explain further. However, it all depends on what you feel is the issue. If it's the disk, just get another disk and do dump|restore. If it's RAM, add more. They are cheap. If it's your system that is b0rken because of some mods you've been doing and not documenting, then start afresh with another server and migrate the services.
