Its done, the problem was actually on their side but Peter Mathenge of E-care was right on top of it. This is the first time I have some nice words for Safaricom.

As usual I cant get through to Safaricom 100 yet I need my phone Samsung SGH-D880 configured for web access.
Maybe someone in Skunkworks has a similar phone and is already configured, then I can call you to assist me.
Or just maybe there is someone from Safaricom who might want to assist me or call me back on 0723 656 445.

Sorry - I forgot to mention I sent the blank SMS to 445 and got three messages back that I was asked to save but it still did not work. I think the problem is about one message overwriting the other one - How can I deal with this?

Hi,

Am sorry if this discourages you, but most of the Samsungs 880 have issues with internet access. I had an experience with one, I dumped it for a Berry and later a Nokia. The software it has I think has issues.

I hope you did not play around with some Samsung short codes, which are easily available online! I played around with them and deleted all the data including the Wap settings. Sending an SMS to 232 (I'm on Zain) I'm told that I can't get the settings as my phone is nit configured.
Just check your IMEI and see whether it's giving you 15 different digits, if it's giving you all zeors, you are in hot soup, like I'm.
So I need to get a new handset.

Hi Peter,

Thank you very much for your response. I have followed all your instructions and rebooted the phone but it still wont work. Is there anything you might have omitted?
Please note that this is a new phone and has not been tampered with - so I would expect it to work.
You assistance will be highly appreciated.

Nick

Peter,
Could it have anything to do with my SIM card?

If you are using the number 0723656445, you need to reboot your phone again since the line has not registered on GPRS network yet.

If you are using a different number, please send it for further check.
