FYi, and for curiosity's sake.
a) The Port of Mombasa is the main sea port for our country and several other countries. Kenya is a VERY attractive transit point for hard drugs, people(read human trafficking) and other things which cannot mention without being forced to produce proof.
b) Cops will always hassle us for weed, but never for coke or heroin. The local "cocaine" industry in very small(in comparison to the transit traffic) The industry is so well placed(i.e. cops in the pockets of the powers that be). They'll clean your wallet out, but they're always wary of you if you're careless enough for them to nab you with enough for personal consumption. If the news is anything to go by, cops who meddle in dealers' business end up having reduced life spans.
c) Better yet, the next time you're on 'electric avenue' in Westlands, see if you can get spotted by a runner (chaps and lasses who sell heroin sachets for Kshs 2500 if you look like game) and try get them to talk to you. You can even get ecstacy for Kshs 500. The policing is so lax, I'm afraid of what will happen to Kids when people start cooking methamphetamines for serious business.
My point is...immerse yourself a little bit into the reality that is hard drug use in Nbo. Heroin is used widely in the slums, Mathare has many many drug related mental cases, and apparently PRIVATE REHAB facilities in the leafy surburbs are minting a pretty penny for those that want their "troubled" children treated in privacy.
