I use Linux Mint 10 which started as a spin-off of Ubuntu but has also grown and has a Debian spin to it and is available for download in GNOME, KDE, XFCE & LXDE desktop versions . 

I liked it first because it comes with all the audio-video codecs that most Linux distros have a restriction on ( Fedora etc, you have to do a post install for them) Other than that the Gnome version has an interface that is very accessible and the necessary applications to get you up and running straight after install, i'm saying this because I do very minimum customizations after installing.
