Ok, so it appears the dude who plays himself in his viral video has thoroughly impressed me. Here are a few reasons why: Listen to a sampling of the lyrics: Serikali haijali so naona mbwa kali afadhali Dem amejam juu doo haikam Nasiwezi kumshow ati life ni exam Juu nitatupiwa sufuria Na hizo ni aibu ndogo ndogo mi sipendi So nikikupita tao Jua siyo madharau I laughed so hard my 6-week old daughter started laughing, then switched to crying before I could explain the lyrics ;) The characters names? Hilariously witty! My personal favs: - The Askyua Matha Black Militants (fight the power!) - Abscondita - Wrong Number - Britannia Zimeisha (si ununue House of Manji...) Assorted funnies in the video: - Presented in CinemaTope (a nod to CinemaScope http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CinemaScope) - Color by Robbialac - Available in stereo where available Just A Band's other videos are equally well thought out (some of them too well thought out, I couldn't figure out the abstract art themes of Iwinyo Piny. What does the title mean anyway?) A few similar strands: - The ending in "If I Could" and "Usinibore" is up in the air... I like that. I prefer media that lets me fill in the blanks. - In both "If I Could" and his viral video, the guy leaves the girl. These guys are true geeks... they need to get out more ;) I wish these guys well. I hope such innovative courage succeeds in all ways. The videos reminded me of aspects of Kenyan culture that I absolutely love. Now if only they could launch a web-comic... they may very well be the Kenyan version of Boondocks. saidi PS I've taken great effort to avoid mentioning the "M" word in this post. It's not a name to be taken in vain ;)
