Someone please explain to me in business terms how Bhartis 100m subscribers help kenyas less than 1 million and how they will leverage economies of scale to be sustainable in Kenya when offering dirt cheap prices. Equipment? Innovation?
If they were talking about indonesia or china, I would agree, but you are talking about a 15m market in Kenya....
In fact ive been saying , unless innovation depends on the other 100m subscribers(international money transfer back to india from kenya for example) then the 100m subscribers are of no use to the kenyan market at all. (has anyone bothered to find out Vodafones global subscriber base and how deep their pockets are?)
The big mistake people make is to believe that simply because you are big, you can have one section of your business being unprofitable and life goes on as usual.....im yet to be convinced that bharti can sustain this more than a year. Zain(kuwait) forked out a huge cheque to cover losses in this market especially when Vuka launched. Last i heard Zain losses were at 2billion. Unless Bharti are in for CSR or to learn from Safcoms Mpesa then go back and implement it in the 100m....this story wont end well....especially if some unforeseen global force puts pressure on Bhartis costs. Remember a company called GTV?

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.As we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
