Prudence would lead any one with important data to distribute his backup locations. I agree when you say that the fault doesn't fall squarely on the hardware and service providers. planning was apparently lacking here! I also think that total dependence on cloud computing is not a very good thing! Just like putting all your eggs in one basket.
