Paul, the initial steps for godaddy are as follows;
· Log in to your account for yourdomain.com at www.godaddy.com by clicking the My Account tab.
· Under the Domains header, click (Advanced Details) to the right of yourdomain.com.
· Under the DNS Manager header, click Launch. ########please note that if under DNS manager you have (DNS Manager: (Not hosted here)), then it means you have name servers listed instead and therefore, it is the host for the name servers that needs to now add the txt section below.
· In the TXT (Text) section, click Quick Add.
· In the Host field, enter @.
· In the TXT Value field, copy and paste the following unique security token:
google-site-verification=random_google_generated_code
· Leave the TTL drop-down as the default selection.
· At the top or the bottom of the page, click the Save Zone File button.
· Click OK in the pop-up.
Have you gone past this?

The DNS settings are changed on the domain registration interface (or settings panel). You don't need to be hosted for this, but of course the domain needs to be registered.--2011/4/21 Paul Mathu <mails.mathu@gmail.com>
@ George
I have gone thru the instructions yes..
bt whats not clear here is, must the domain be hosted for me to add the entry in the DNS zone..?--On 20 April 2011 19:38, george <theonlydamnedavailablename@gmail.com> wrote:
First, read the instructions as they give you various alternatives to authenticate. If you are not the one hosting your NS, ask your host to make changes for you. Typically, it involves adding a TXT record that google provides and then moving on from there.

Hi pple
I have been trying to setup google apps with a domain name and i seem to hit a dead end on authenticating the ownership of the domain. Question is, must i have hosted the site to access DNS configurations?
What's your domain name? You need a DNS Zone for your domain and a CNAME within that
Stuck.....
