my conclusion on this (and i set a similar thing last week, im sure wash will attest to the many questions i asked and he graciously assisted).
your best bet is to differentiate the orange device from the linux gateway. -> look for a CDMA router. which means you get a device that on its own negotiates the connectin and gives you net to an ethernet port.
you can then use an old PC to share the connection. if however all you need is sharing and not necessarily administration, i recommend getting a router and connecting it to a switch.
youll be home and dry.
Quick note @Odhi, i was told they don't sell the huawei anymore. Orange that is.

That was in case he wanted me to set up the box for him, as he has already provided the details.I think it's better if you post instructions here. It will benefit many.
We will write him Ubuntu 10.10 installation media:-)
I am only asking this way to know how you'd do it in his preferred way - with Orange modem. My ZTE modem is giving me grief on Ubuntu, to an extent I am goingto buy a Huawei one tomorrow, unless you intervene and say there is an easier way to get the ZTE working on Ubuntu. I am using mine on a laptop - Lenovo T61 to be precise. The Safaricom Huawei works without a glitch. ZTE gives me pain to even setup.
