Hello Brainiac, You can take a cow to the river but you can't make it drink water. Accessibility is the first step. Second comes discovery / education / knowledge. The fact that this is available is a huge step. The next depends on what an individuals/organisations motives are. Question is whose responsibility is it to educate the masses on these uses? You? Skunkworks? Govt? Safaricom? Google? Themselves? -----Original Message----- From: [Brainiac] <arebacollins@gmail.com> To: joe.njeru@gmail.com, Skunkworks Mailing List <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] IDEOS really taking it to the masses Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2011 11:30:59 +0300 and you expect the masses to one day wake up to a eureka moment and know how and where to install these apps without a skunk talking about them? Finally this weekend installed Skype from the market and been calling people with it from Java free wireless. Installed BatteryBooster to manage my battery life. Now lasts atleast 2 hours longer. Installed 3GWatchdog to manage my #544 25mb daily limit. Installed Aldiko to read my ebooks from ProjectGutenburg and converted ones using Calibre. Installed GTunes to download music. Installed SoundHound to identify songs playing on the radio, club or matatu. The key is not to move hardware, but create an ecosystem where owners or (addicts) of the now famous Ideos become huge consumers of data. I am sure they may be selling the phone at a subsidized cost but considering how these smartphones move data, soon their data sales may exceed voice. I hope other players will not come back a few years from now and want to share the Safaricom Ideos ecosystem. _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke -- “The twentieth century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy” ~ Alex Carey ~ Tel No: 0x2af23696 _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke -- Regards, Joe Murithi Njeru LPI Certified Professional (www.lpi.org) Linux User: #361092 SIP: joe.njeru@ekiga.net Twitter: http://twitter.com/joenjeru Blog: http://www.joenjeru.com _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke -- “The twentieth century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy” ~ Alex Carey ~ Tel No: 0x2af23696 -- Regards, Joe Murithi Njeru LPI Certified Professional (www.lpi.org) Linux User: #361092 SIP: joe.njeru@ekiga.net Twitter: http://twitter.com/joenjeru Blog: http://www.joenjeru.com
