the first generation iphone was EDGE(2.75G), while the second generation iphone was 3G. The just released iphone 3Gs is a 3rd generation iphone. the 1st generation will never access 3G. Safaricom 3G network is availabe in Nairobi, Mombasa and has been reported in parts of Nakuru & Eldoret(possibly still in the testing). The 3G network works on any 3G phone(other factors constant). Does nayone know if Yu have ordered 3G equipment or whether they have st up base outside Nairobi & Mombasa? 2009/6/24 Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com>
I think there is not 2G or 3G sim card, any SIM would work on any 3G device including some Nokia Phones and the iPhone 3G. Safaricom's 3G is mainly in Nairobi, Mombasa and I don't know where else so location could also be a factor.

The safcom guys issue 3G and 2G simcards. I think 3G simcards come with the huawei usb 3G cards [popularly known as bambanet]
- Did you use the 3G simcard ? I am curious about the outcome of this debate since i am not present to test it myself.
