Usijali @okechukwu. I never quite understood why I could not just arrange the wires in the colours of the rainbow when crimping wires..... that part of "history" is a part im glad to leave behind... (FYI i never quite got why they invented a crossover cable). :-) [im certain I have not helped the question in place one single bit].

Does assigning an IP to an interface in Linux also change /etc/hosts?
I find that weird, but not entirely. Maybe something in Linux 'does
that for you' automagically.
Anyway, even it does, that should not make services that work based on
an IP (which has not been modified) to stop working, right?
