never mind,
Amazon web services have their own iptables running atop the vps. :-)
i do not have i[ptables running, yet nmap tells me
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http
110/tcp open pop3
443/tcp closed https
So whats blocking my port 8080?On Tue, May 24, 2011 at 11:33 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I have openerp running on 50.17.250.229:8080 (its a demo, totally unsecure) but somehow am getting a time out when i try accessing it from the web. could any of you have any idea whats happening?
ive even allowed all traffic on iptables but im still getting a timeout,..
Three possibilities:
1. Firewall is blocking port 8080
2. ERP not running and so nothing is listening on that port
3. ERP is running but listening on a port other than 8080
