how do the ships cut these cables ?? 

cos am assuming

(1) there is good padding around the core 

(2) what are the chances the anchor will hit the 1 meter where the cable passes ? 

(am sure its not a safaricom ship sent to pre-empt the airtel 3G launch )

(3) do the ship anchors have rotating blades ?
