As for Mandriva, I will continue using it for a while, but every major
issues seems to have one major problem with it. As for suse, it seems
to be closer to mandriva, but a bit managed. as for now fedora looks
attractive.

As for freeBSD, it seems that it is not geared for desktop use, but
the best for server use.

If you'd like FreeBSD for Desktop usage, try PC-BSD[1] or DesktopBSD[2]. I'd personally recommend PC-BSD though as its update schedule (to be in sync with the latest FreeBSD release) is much faster.

PS: For the record, FreeBSD does not support as much hardware as Linux.
