I had a situation once when I thought my iPhone was completely dead and it was in that state for two to three days - only to discover it was stuck at recovery mode. Try leave it on power for several hours and then try exit recovery mode - press home button 5 sec then without releasing press power button for 10 sec, then release home button while power is still pressed for between 15-30 sec - Maybe, just maybe (if its recovery mode issue) it will come back to life - I tried this several times before it breathed again.
