@Odhiambo, it is because the students use facebook at the expense of other students who would like to do their projects and/or thesis, @jade and james lemme try but option number three wont work as these are university students, you just might end up in hospital,@david are you sure facebook will help transform africa into an innovative continent when the person who just might be having the Aids cure cant access a computer to see if the DNA pool of the Aids virus is indeed correct?its truly heartbreaking to see a skunker suffer from cranial rectitus!!!
Now that I understand you, is the 2k8 the Domain Controller? If yes, then I think you can use what James Nzomo said, but via Group Policies (sorry I cannot elaborate on howto) by publishing DNS entries as Nzomo said. The only problem is that this might affect everyone in your domain. I must now ask how you diff between the students you want to block from FB and those other students doing their projects/thesis as far as the computers they use are concerned. If, and only IF, it is acceptable to block FB entirely in your domain, then publish DNS records on the AD that point FB to 127.0.0.1. Run IIS or even Apache on the DC and display a page for facebook.com that tells everyone that access to FB is blocked! This is the KISS principle. There are other ways as already suggested, but they introduce complications to your life.
