IMHO, it's not immediately straight forward to compare iOS and Android, adding Nokia makes it more complicated. In iOS, Apple controls the platform, AppStore and device, in Android, Google controls the platform and AppStore while device makers control the devices, in Nokia's case, MS controls the platform while Nokia controls the AppStore and Device. I think the control of Platform, AppStore and Device are the key things to look at. 1. iOS: Apple controls all 3 and they seem to understand their consumers really well. iOS is unique and will always have it's fans, and those fans are high value! I don't think iOS can easily scale, worldwide. I think Android beats them on this one. 2. Android: Android needs to avoid the j2me problem, where different device manufacturers' implementations behave differently. iOS doesn't have this problem. On the other hand, just like j2ME, their platform will likely be the most widely adopted worldwide. 3. Nokia (Windows): MS has an ego as big as Apple's. The fact that they've not been successful with their Windows platform makes me appreciate Apple's ego more! I think Nokia can take the Windows Mobile platform to a great level. But once that happens I feel MS will come in for a kill! Since Nokia controls their store, they may want features in Windows Mobile which MS might not agree on. The fact that Nokia acquired Qt and Symbian shows how much they would like to control a plaform that delivers a customized Nokia experience. I think Nokia is between a rock and a hard place. The rock is their need to deliver a unique Nokia experience on the platform running on their devices, while the hard place is MS ego. All in all, this is an interesting partnership to watch! o_O --- On Fri, 4/22/11, skunkworks-request@lists.my.co.ke <skunkworks-request@lists.my.co.ke> wrote: From: skunkworks-request@lists.my.co.ke <skunkworks-request@lists.my.co.ke> Subject: Skunkworks Digest, Vol 14, Issue 281 To: skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke Date: Friday, April 22, 2011, 9:10 PM Send Skunkworks mailing list submissions to skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to skunkworks-request@lists.my.co.ke You can reach the person managing the list at skunkworks-owner@lists.my.co.ke When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Skunkworks digest..."
