I've been using Duckduckgo for the last 3 weeks - it all started when Google decided to change the new tab page on Chrome, then to pour insult to injury, they removed a flag that restored the old page. While I can search from Chrome's Omnibar, I feel adding a Google search bar on every new tab by force is going way too far. Over the ages, I have tried a number of search engines, and none has come close to Google, until recently, when I re-tried Duckduckgo. It does rank much the same top results as you will see on Page 1 of Google, and best of all, searches are not personalised (removal of a bias). Also they say they rank results best on more human centric sites (or something, I forgot the actual phrase). So far, difference between Duckduckgo and Google is the way they describe results, in that Google does it better hence you can see what you were looking for (though as explained above, rank of top results is similar). Duckduckgo also lacks image search and news search(both a disadvantage and advantage). It however has bangs and you can use other search engines eg "search term g!" searches on Google while "Search term !yt" searches Youtube and !n does Google news. Also, Google still has more results for those narrower searches. IMO, duckduckgo is the closest you can get to big G, and is actually very close. I'm still surprised at how far Yahoo and others are, and surprised they haven't thought of buying out the new entrant. On Mobile, I have found that switching from Google needs you to install a new launcher. On Windows Phone, you are stuck with Bing and a choice of Bing/Google on Internet Explorer. Anyone else tried Duckduckgo? How was your experience, or experience with any other search engine? -- with Regards: blog.denniskioko.com <http://www.denniskioko.com/>
