LED televisions are really just LCD televisions that use LED lights for back lighting instead of the flourescent CFL lighting. You can choose from Edge Lighting and Back Lighting LEDs.Edgelit has LEDs around the edge of the panel and this allows for extremely thin construction.Backlit has banks of LED lights behind the panel that lower the amount of back lighting in dark areas of the screen and raise it in bright areas for higher contrast and better blacks.Backlit LED TV technology has an advantage in both contrast and black levels over standard LCD and even Edgelit LEDs . The thicker and higher quality Backlit LED glass panels offer a better viewing angle. One thing to look out for are anti glare screens as they will have less depth and poorer viewing angles. You will want to compare response times and refresh rates when making a purchase decision the higher the figures the better the picture quality . Other connectivity considerations include DLNA over WiFi and USB support for streaming media around the home to your TV either from your media home server, PS3 or XBOX or direct connectivity through USB On 16 January 2011 16:59, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:
I have started saving for a TV, to replace my Cathode Ray Tube, but I simply cannot decide on what I want, except that 32" is just enough for my viewing:-) 37" would be the extreme I can go sincerely, not above! Now that is all I seem to know. I have spoken to an electronics engineer friend of mine and he tells me that between Plasma, LCD and LED, he'll go for LED any time. My worry is something I've just seen while checking out LG website - that the lifespan of an LED TV is 30,000hrs. That is like 3 years, right? (When it's running 24hrs non-stop which is not quite practical). In my hse, there are some pests who can easily run a TV for 17hrs per day so this worries me, unless I misread/miscalculated something. I was looking at these<http://www.lg.com/uk/common/compare/products-compare-result.jsp?CatID=8115&BURL=/uk/tv-audio-video/televisions/index.jsp> and comparing, but I am still lost. What is OLED, for those in the know?
Can someoen please offer me free advise on what I should go for, and why?
