LED televisions are really just LCD televisions that use LED lights for back lighting instead of the flourescent CFL lighting. You can choose from Edge Lighting and Back Lighting LEDs.Edgelit has LEDs around the edge of the panel and this allows for extremely thin construction.Backlit has banks of LED lights behind the panel that lower the amount of back lighting in dark areas of the screen and raise it in bright areas for higher contrast and better blacks.Backlit LED TV technology has an advantage in both contrast and black levels over standard LCD and even Edgelit LEDs . The thicker and higher quality Backlit LED glass panels offer a better viewing angle. One thing to look out for are anti glare screens as they will have less depth and poorer viewing angles. You will want to compare response times and refresh rates when making a purchase decision the higher the figures the better the picture quality .
