<penimbili> Well i am working on the Ericsson Service Development studio - which by the way ran me into problems with fellow peace loving skunks (search thread "Solaris 10 problems") when i tried explaining what the IP Multimedia Subsystem is and how things run in there. i concur with Wes but i dont fault the 'local' telcos that much. from what i gather independently, Safaricom, Zain (hope they still use that name) and even Yu arent that much into R&D, they just pick on the latest idea. They leave the rest to the likes of Nokia Siemens, Ericsson, Huaweii, Alcatel etc who have very good VAS Departments which i believe dont just facilitate call forwading. these are the big boys to talk to. why do you think M-Pesa, Zap ,sambaza and eneza are similar in architecture?? Answer: one provider of the technology. Atleast locally Huaweii have done some good work that i know of concerning development of services. Back to SDS, its a very good platform to start with, kudos to Ericsson. reason? it is based on the IMS which is a SIP based environment that is all IP. when you critically analyse the current communication trends and study the 3GPP2 proposed architecture, you notice a slow but sure elimination of the traditinal nodes/systems in the core network that will eventually leave an all-IP based system. Now with a well structured IP network backed with highly promising fibre optic network, you can only imagine what endless possibilities there are, we are talking of ..........(my ideas:)! well its now done to you....... God bless y'all! </penimbili> On Tue, Jul 14, 2009 at 2:50 PM, Garum <gilbert.arum@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi:
The APIs to the Telcos back-end infrastructure often developed and owned by the different providers. Quite a number have made these publicly available. For example: See http://www.ericsson.com/developer/sub/warehouse/index.html

Maybe you should try approaching yu. they are innovative and look eager enough to adapt new ideas. Zain should be on the bottom of the list, the most they are eager enough is to change names.

Hi yall,
Can one of our ever competing Telcos develop a platform and expose APIs that allow developers to plug in applications to their back-end infrastructure that they hold dear? There are many developers who want
to
build awesome mobile applications but they would like access to the Telcos infrastructure for the application to make business/market sense. With all these applications, come the subscribers.
If there is a Telco out there willing to do the next big thing after M-PESA, then I believe this is it.
Have a department of skilled developers familiar with Telco stuff and the department will be the link to the outside developers, providing knowledge, support etc that a normal developer would need to plug in. Hopefully if at all the developer is charged anything then it will be reasonable.
