There is a site called journeytoforever.org that basically is about alternative fuels and all that, one article i read there a while back is about the seven sisters, which highlights the seven or so multi nationals that manage oil, which are hell bent on ensuring that no one tries anything funny on their daily bread. They are solely responsible for strifling technologies that would render oil obsolete untill every drop has been exhausted. Think over this: 1: There are several medium scale (60Megawatt type) solar generators that use reflectors to focus the suns heat which heats oil, which in turns super heats water to steam and generates energy. I could take this further cause superheated steam is a damn good source of distilled water, so think getting water from the Indian ocean, heating it using the sun and generating energy and distilled water as a by product. and this is at a scale everyone would have pure, not just clean water. 2: Brazil has for long been known as the leader in production of biofuels, utilizing ethanol from sugarcane. can anyone on this group tell me of a place in Kenya that sugarcane does not grow? 3: Still on the brazil case, their north eastern districts, long considered arid, are ripe areas for growing of castor, which is a hardy plant that yields more than half its weight in oil. But because biodiesel production is still a bit less competitive at world prices of crude, what did they do? they insist that all diesel sold has to be B5, meaning 5% biodiesel. Now, imagine what that would do for a country with a fuel bell exceeding 130billion in any given year like Kenya. The critical thing here is policy and enabling environment. I have been chasing a permit to lift ethanol for two years now, just because KRA doesnt know if it makes economic sense doesnt give them a right to know mine. Cheers and have an environmentally aware day!. On 6/5/09, christiano kwena <christianokwena@googlemail.com> wrote:
Our goverment should aim to boost what is being done in northern kenya to generate 300 megawatts by private investors instead of going for coal burners at the coast

I hardly watch stuff on television but if thats the same one that was on Nation, Gee! That feature got me thinking... Dont i love the excitement and awe that comes with our 'huge projects'? but on second thots..... Logging policy....only a single tree should be felled per hectare! And does the sun not shine and does the wind not blow on every part of this beloved country?? Lo!

I have just finished watching a feature film on Citizen TV that is mighty scary. Can we reverse the imminent doom of all mankind? How about we work on cultivating the sun, wind, water and tapping those sources of energy instead of petroleum-based energy sources?
Food for thought.
